Happy New Year to everyone on the list and thanks to those that have responded to my previous questions. Due to a nice computer crash, my saved messages regarding how to post/subscribe/unsubscribe et.al. is now history. Is there a website with all archived messages from this newsgroup and is there a search function there of different topics so I won't have to ask questions that have been asked before. Can you upload pictures of one's Vanagon or Westy at this site? I posed a question a few weeks ago about transporting a Vanagon cross country. My brother is head of freight for Union Pacific in Houston, TX and is trying to find out if you can ship directly through UP or any other rail service instead of through transportation brokers. Hard to justify spending 800-950 for rail transport or well over a thousand dollars for truck transport. If I hear something positive, I will post it to the group. My one question would be: Have any members of the group done a successful VR6 transplant into a Vanagon. I have the VR6 in a Passat and I love the engine. What were the main problems of the swap? I assume a brakcet for the engine mount would be necessary in addition to different exhaust, et.al. If I had an aircooled engine, I'd probably just have mine rebuilt. But since I have a watercooled, I'm thinking it might not be such a bad idea. If there is an article on this in the archived section, if this exists, if you could redirect me to this, it would be greatly appreciated. Harold Jaynes 84 "Whale" |
