I started a thread about this pump a few weeks ago... the pump on my 90 TD (2wd) doesn't shut off anymore. I've just disconnected it. I'll look for the sensor when the weather gets better. The water circuit it's in goes round the oil filter mount so it looks designed not only to cool the block by keeping the coolant flowing, but also to cool the oil.
