Subject: Disregarding the owner's manual,
was: Euro-Engine: FIX 87 Volkswagen VANAGON
I don't mean to be harsh, but I can't drum up support for some Joe who
thinks something is wrong with his vehicle when they haven't bothered to
read the glovebox manual. What's the old acronym, RTFM? This customer's
complaint, and the preventive lubrication recommendations are BOTH covered
in the manual. If he was missing the manual, they are available through VW.
The performance, features, and maintenance are self-explanatory for simple
devices like shovels, matches, and spoons. A vehicle, if one wishes for
safety, convenience, and long-lasting reliability demands some modicum of
sagacity on the part of the owner to understand the needs and
characteristics of the machinery involved. Cars are complicated, but the
manufacturer helps you understand what you need to know (like the normalcy
of a flashing oil light) in the manual.
Someone who takes their van to a mechanic because they are running
unsuitable oil and disregarding advise from the manual has only themselves
to blame for the unnecessary inconvenience and "repair" cost. That's my
story, and I'm stickin' to it.
