Great advice to compare the temp 1 and temp 2 for equal resistance
before startup, tells a person a lot about the sensors. Also checking from
the ecu end as you suggest eliminates the possibility of miss diagnosing
bad connection at the sensor end. This is also good advise for air cooled
L-Jetronic.
I have experienced several temp 2 sensors that were intermittent. To
prove they are functioning correctly when an anomaly develops one can attach
a volt meter to the sensor wire and observe the voltage while driving
around. The voltage should be steady and very near zero volts on a warm /
hot engine. Of course a digitool will check them with the flip of a
switch.
