Eric, Yes the engine sits at the stock position. I have pics of my first conversion back in 1993, of the 1.8 8V, my 1.8 16V in my 85 also at 15 degrees. I also have pics of my 69-79 transporter manual transmission conversion. I put manufacturing a kit for it on a back burner unless there is more interest in it. I have over 100,000 miles on my 84 and 2 other vans out there with no problems. The nice part about the conversion is using the Berg bus shifter. If someone has a web site to borrow I can send all my pics for the list to view. Fair warning to purest a head of time : I see over 5 perfectly good Vanagons a year on average in junk yards with three top reasons for being there: HEAD or CRANK GRIEF, TRANSMISSION, and believe it or not: WATER PUMP FAILURE. (most oddly with a new alternator, go figure) my vans were all purchased for way under $400.00. I have a Dr. Frankenstein approach at improving the drive train of the Vanagon. Beauty has not been my goal yet. All my conversions cost me well under $1000.00 including downer car and KEP kit. So please, go easy on me in the beauty department. Rob
