I have the Eurospec conversion in my '86 Syncro Doublecab.

Performed at my insistence by a local shop who have now washed their hands of the whole affair after six weeks of horsing around. These guys ended up losing money big time on this project.

Vibration does not seem to be as big a problem for me since the motor is "outside". Doesn't sound like a WBX though, sounds like a sewing machine.

My biggest problem is with hot starts. If I try to start while hot, the fuel pump will not engage. I have a two man solution for this problem; one cranks the motor, the other reaches into the engine compartment and gives the "black box" containing the fuel pump relay a slight whack. This always works, though is hardly workable long term. If I'm alone, I can always leave the thing for 20 minutes or so to cool; this always works.

I might have seen similar fuel pump relay problems with a low batt. rather than high temp, but have not reproduced.

Mileage and power are both good. Not earthshaking.

You can see the weird exhaust tip and my solution on my doublecab page.

These conversions are fine for a second or hobby car. I might eventually get everything worked out, but I'd be going nuts if I had to put up with all this on a daily driver. I'm seriously considering a return to the WBX. Luckily I kept my core.

Hello,

I recently had the engine converted in my 85 Vanagon with the Eurospec 2.0 conversion kit. I am insanely curious if other conversions packages have the same problems.

Namely:

1)seeminly incurable electrical problems.

2)incredilbly loud droning at about 3900 RPM.

3)Intermitant hesitations/rough idle.

Though it appears that most conversions use the same main parts such as mounts and plumbing, other items such as wiring harness and exhaust system are completely different.

With this info, I can go back to the installer and Eurospec and point out that other conversions with a certain type of exhaust, for example, don't emit a deafening drone a freeway speeds.

If you have had a conversion, please reply and let me know made the conversion and if you have had ANY problems.

Thanks in advance.

Kevin
