The Scorpio was also available in the US under the brand "Merkur Scorpio". The 2,9 version was also used in the late 80s Bronco II and Ranger pickup, and rumours say that the 4,0 available in the Explorer is the very same engine. A Ford-friend I have is curious on this 4,0 as it would replace the 2,9 in his Taunus with ease.
