Yeah, my 85 fuel pump did the same thing. Comes on for about 3 seconds and
off unless you start it. My 82 does not do this. I have to move the AFM to
get it to come on. Seems VW only did this for a couple of years. Your story
reminded me of when I was troubleshooting my 82 and I couldn't figure out
why my fuel pump didn't come on like my 85 did. Lesson learned :-) I am
thankful to the list, because I was about to replace my "good" fuel pump on
my 82.
