I just had the rear brakes done on my '82 Diesel. It had been in storage and the padding on the shoes had completely come off leaving metal to metal. Luckily I had drums on my parts van that were A-OK. I didn't want to mess with the rear brakes for two reasons.

1 - I hate bleeding, especially by myself. 2 - I did the drums on my '92 GTI 8v and took them both off. If I could do it again, I would do one at a time to have a reference point for reassembling as the rear assemblies can get pretty complicated.

As long as you do them opne at a time, they shouldn't be too perplexing to re assemble. I won't make that mistake again.

BTW, Mine ran $300 for resurfacing, and everything.

Good Luck!

Stefan
