The standard place for the tire in SA is under the front. I have seen
some with the tire mounted on the front, or on the back door, or in the
back. This has typically been when someone has upgraded the tires from
the standard 14" to 15". I have however managed to sqeeeeeze my 215SR15
into the cage under the front. one of the disadvantages with the tire
under the front, is that it difficult to remove if you are stuck in the
rough and need to replace a tire.

I don't think I've ever seen a Syncro, passenger or camper, that had
the
spare tire any where except under the front.  That is where mine is.
