Subject: '82 diesel westfalia - $1200/obo
Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII

I made an impulse decision the other day to purchase an '82 diesel westy (I've always thought it would be fun to have one), but as I already have two vanagons, I would like to sell the diesel. In addition, as I live in the San Gabriel mountains at the moment, it's not an ideal vehicle. Anyway, I couldn't afford to insure three cars. There are some good and bad points, so I'll try to cover it all here.

The good: engine runs and idles well, (no missing, bucking or jerking) Tranny is good Stove and fridge work and are in good shape All tables, curtains, rear cushion, upper bed cushion are present and in good condition Interior carpets and fabric are all fine. pop-top in good shape including canvas all locks work including glove compartment swivel seats work cheap am/fm cassette stereo wipers, lights, cabin lights all working all glass is good Maintenance manual, fridge and stove manuals

The bad: has clutch shudder from dead stop in first gear (shifts smoothly throughout all gear though) has had a fair amount of bondo work on front and rear, BUT body looks pretty straight. However, it probably had some sort of accident with a prior owner (if there is any significant rust, I don't see it) other minor leaks that are typical of this model Front blower fan doesn't come on Rear closet cabinet missing Missing owner's manual pop-top seal starting to come off

I just drove it on a 150 mile trip without any problems. It's light yellow on the outside with the brown and green plain interior. The appliances are the light beige color. Despite the clutch shudder when starting out in first gear, it drives comfortably and cruises nicely without incident at 65 on the highway. I live in the mountains where it's hilly and cold, so this model is not well suited for me. As I said, I really purchased this on an impulse, and I think two vanagons are really enough. I've been on this list for 5 years now, and this addiction sometimes gets the better of me.

I'm asking $1200 or best offer, and I will consider all offers. I don't really want to part it out, so if you want some major parts, perhaps you could drive it away, take some parts and sell the rest. However, if you're somewhat mechanically inclined, you could make a few minor repairs and have a good camper to beat around in without worrying about it much. I would think it to be great for a trip south of the border.

The camper's located in Wrightwood, CA, but with some advance notice, I could show it anywhere between Los Angeles and Victorville.

Call or e-mail for additional information and/or any questions (760) 249-1257.

Thanks, David
