Subject: Steering boot replacement advice on 85
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

Vinnie (our 85 Westy) failed our beloved VA inspection process due to a cracked steering boot on the passenger side (US). I've got the new part on the way from TBD (great bunch of volks). After looking at my Bently, there isn't much definitive regarding replacing this particular piece. I'm assuming that the process goes like this: 1) Remove the tie rod end, by pressing it out, from the steering knuckle leaving it attached to the tie rod itself 2) Remove the defective unit 3) Slip the new one back over the tie rod. Am I on base here, or is it more complicated than that? Any caveats? Should I lube anything under the boot? (If so, then using what lube?)

As always, I'm thankful to the all knowing list,

Dave & Sherrie Williamsburg, VA zzzzzzzzzz__ |E[__] [__]|[_]\\ | _DC&SP | _ || * * * =-( )---------( )--=
