Subject: hi/low idling on '87 2.1L
Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

this month's project is to finally fix my loping idle. Some questions:

-is the idle stabilizer solenoid supposed to pull the valve ALL the way back? my solenoid humms, and with the ignition on (engine off) it opens the valve about 1/4 of its full range. (roughly two millimeters of 6-8 mm possible travel)

-has anyone ever "explored" their throttle valve switch (the thing under the throttle housing). i took the cover off mine last night and it looks like there's a palstic cam with two lobes attached to the throttle shaft. there's also a tiny switch nearby, but not close enough to be actuated by the cam. Hmm....is there a missing piece here? is mine out of adjustment? what does this throttle valve swich do anyway?

-has anyone ever done all the Bentley recommended tests for the Digifant system? can I use a standard Ohmeter and some common sense, or do you need a VW muti-$-meter and a wolfsburg PhD?

Thanks for any knowledge you can spare.,

-Curt
