Subject: '81 wiring/Bentley questions

Vanagoners:

I have an '81 Vanagon (7 passenger) that I bought new 18 years ago this month. When I bought it the VW dealer sold a Factory Repair Manual for '80/'81. I believe VW sold this off to Bentley later. Anyway, since I have this one, I've never bought a Bentley.

Does anyone else have this version? Does a Bentley have mo'better information for an '81?

I ask this because of a wiring question. I was looking at the wiring diagrams for the fresh air blower and I cannot find it. I can find the dash light behind the switch panel, but no diagram of the switch and blower motor.

When I look in the section of Heater and Ventilation, the full-page exploded diagram of where things are in the bus shows a "trim plate" that appears to have only the three levers and no switch. Also no fan is identified. Maybe the Vanagon did not originally have a fresh air fan and it was added in '81 and the manual not updated correctly?

Would someone with a Bentley check the '81 wiring and see if it shows up. If so, perhaps someone would copy that page for me.

[I'm planning a camping trip to Death Valley about January 22-30. Plans still being developed. Anyone interested in joining up there then?]
