I'm not sure I see the problem.
Our owners manual indicates clearly that intermediate flickering of the Oil
Pressure light is completely normal under certain conditions, such as in
stop & go traffic, or when idling after fast highway driving.
I would suggest the owner do two things: (1) READ THE OWNER'S MANUAL. By
doing so, your customer will realize that 10w30 is not recommended for
their van. Also, they will know that the Oil Pressure warning system is
(apparently) operating correctly. (2) Use Mann or Knecht filters from VW.
These filters play a role in proper pressure.
Although I don't have a Bentley manual in front of me, the readings you
gave (8-10 at idle, 24 at 2000) sound ok. Send your customer home with a
bill for an oil change, and a prescription for some common sense: READ THE
OWNER'S MANUAL.

Thanks for the help. Most guys recommended draining the oil
and filling with 20/50. This raised the oil pressure about
four lbs. at idle and six lbs. at 2000 rpm. Dash lights
stayed off even after 20 minutes running.

Oil press. warning light comes on intermittently. Bosch
filter(#72150) and 10-30 wt. are used. Before we pull the
pump does anybody have any suggestions as to how to isolate
the problem
Thanks, Dan
