Subject: Re: 411 & 412 (VW & type 4, but no van)
Why do I want an AC/Auto 412 wagon? Beyond the fact that I love the design,
it really comes down to ignorance, and prioritization.
I am VERY well versed in sniggling details of the type 4 motor: its
strengths, weaknesses, how to make it smoother, more powerful, etc.
Further, I know VW engineering of the 1960/1970's like the back of my hand.
Conversely, I am fairly ignorant of most other motors. I know a bit about
the innards of my 1.6 TD jetta, but that's the limit.
As far as priorities, I have far higher priorities than re-learning a whole
new motor/tranny/brakes/etc. for a "fun car", which is what a 412 would be
for us, just for fun. Our Jetta will continue as Sue's primary, the Westy
would share daily driver with a newer Tdi Beetle or Jetta, and the 412
would be for Church on Sunday.
But don't tell Sue I still want one....

Bulley,
I had some tenants [Yes I was a slumlord, not exactly successful, the only
person in history to loose money in Berkeley {CA} real estate] who owned
first a new 411. Then when that had some many problems that even the VW
Corp had to admit it was bad [and this is before lemon laws in CA] they
gave
them a trade-in towards a 412.
This vehicle was so much better. It got all the way up to really crappy.
Made a Yugo look reliable. It was awful.
Why do you want one? [Plead insanity, on this list that's a slam dunk]

I

I'd be great]
