FWIW I have the cobra CB with all the controls in the handset which has weather channels. I mention this becuase it can be mounted out of sight, has a small box the size of a cigarette pack mounted under the dash. The handset plugs into that and so it doesn't have to clutter up the dash.

I mounted my "box" in the empty battery box under and behind the drivers seat and hang the handset behind the driver's seat when not in use. The handset mounts on the front-most part of the kitchen near the driver's door, above the kitchen fuses on a self-adhesive microphone clip. It's very easy to reach in this position believe it or not--and it's out of the way.

And if you must have in-dash Jensen makes a two that I see in my West Marine boat catalogue. The CD/AM/FM unit is $300. The Cassette/AM/FM is $160. Both have three weather stations. And I assume they can be mounted in an auto although the depth of the unit is not stated and the Vanagon doesn't have a particularly deep space for a radio. (In fact the Vanagon's radio space is about as shallow as they come. so that is a consideration when installing a radio. Many in-dash units will not fit without substantial (IMHO) modifications to the bus.) West Marine is www.westmarine.com or 1(800)BOATING, that's 1(800)262-8464 while supplies last.

Normal disclaimers. I don't work for anybody. Well, you know what I mean.
