This part number is the correct one for an '87 Vanagon. Bascially they are all the same and interchangable on the 2.1l engines (I have done it so I know). The number is the same for all the 2.1l years: 251 907 393. The last letter is date sensitive. A is for 86, B is for '87, etc. It doesn't effect how the stabilizer works, just when it was made.

If you van has gone over 60k miles without having the oxygen sensor changed then I wouldn't hesitate to change it (this is the recommended interval). I would change it with one that has the OE connectors as this will eliminate any possibility of a bad splice. I sell these for $120, but it is worth the peace of mind when you are trying to troubleshoot a system that you didn't just introduce another problem by a bad splice connection.

You should also: Check ground connections to see if they are clean and secure. Check exhaust system for leaks Check fuel injectors for proper spray pattern and proper shut off. Swap over known good fuel pressure regulator from another van or take a reading from a good running van to see what your fuel pressure should be.
