I read a similar thing about a fellow who did this with a Mercedes diesel. If I recall correctly, he did not add anything to the oil, just ran the straight deep-frying veg oil. He may have processed it somehow, but I don't think so. I hope he strained it!

If memory serves (ugh!), the article was a piece in the parts catalog for the Parts Place (in MI, I think?). The catalog it was in was a couple years ago, at least. (They offered a 10% discount to members of the old v@l list, as I recall.) I've long since chucked the catalog, but perhaps some pack-rats on the list may have a copy banging around. (Psst: Unca Joel? ;-) ).

I guess this means diesel vanagon drivers in Britain never have to worry about running out of fuel! [scrambling to get my nomex underwear on!]
