Oh wise list, I hope you can at least confirm this isn't something too serious so i don't lose sleep all weekend.

Today as i drove my '82 Diesel around, I noticed a noise very similar to the sound disc brakes make when a vehicle has been parked and rust has formed on the discs. This is not the problem though. The noise seems to occur when i downshift or take van out of gear with clutch in (when i coast up to the stoplight). Engine was just rebuilt, clutch is good. Sound is intermittent. I spent about 30 minutes trying to isolate exactly what conditions are causing the sound, but couldn't, although it *seems* to happen more often when turning and shifting into neutral or downshifting.

trans has pulled good since I have had the van, shifts absolutely fine, no resistance, grinding, etc going into and out of gears. mechanic didn't say anything looked suspect when he did the motor. I am thinking, shift linkage could need replacement/adjustment, or my already weak diesel motor mounts are just getting too weak? HELP

Oh well, it's going in to the professional on Monday for its 1000 mile post engine checkup, so I guess he can iron it out. I was hoping you guys could get me through the weekend worry free.

Thanks,

Stefan
