I think we most of us are aware of that. I believe the intent of making the conversion is longevity with similar power. I have no complaints with my box-stock 87 GL Wasserboxer with 182,000 miles on the original engine. A number of accessories failed but not the engine itself. No leaks. My recently acquired 82 with the 1.8 GTI conversion definitely does not feel as strong even with the stock diesel gearing. BenT |
