I do agree that the cold air fills more than hot air; that is why many turbo engines have intercoolers, to cool off the air that is heated by excess heat from the turbo which is driven by the exhaust pressure. However, I would rather think that the reason drag cars run off with cold engines is that they usually don't have any cooling system, to save weight. This prohibits them from running warm engines.
