Has anyone tried to connect common gas tachometer to alternator's (diesel) w -terminal? Does the meter need adjusting? Or does anyone know what is the rate of the pulses from w -terminal/crankshaft round? I know the accuracy of w -terminal is not quite good but I think it is enough for me. This is my first diesel and my ear doesn't say rpms => I'd like to add tachometer and not VW's own. I could calculate pulley ratios and measure the amount of pulses /alternator round but I think it is the hard way. I am capable to build any divider or pulse shaper if necessary.
