Carl;

You really stepped in something good this time!!! All the usual suspects come to mind. Try the easiest first; unplugging the O2 sensor. Next ohm out the TEMPII sensor. Take the readings from the ECU plug. After that check spray patterns at the injectors. This may or may not be conclusive if it is a rich running problem. It also sounds like a time when I was test driving an 85 GL I rebuilt. I got about a mile away and (unbeknownst to me) a valve cover fell off. Well this, in effect, produces a tremendous vacuum leak. Air is suck via the crankcase vent through the pushrod tubes. It would not idle , loped real bad. I envisioned the worst. Unfortunately someone ran over the cover. Luckily the old type II, air cooled covers are interchangeable.
