re: fixing the troubled spots in the Wasserboxer is cheaper than switching to other trouble spots It's also good to remember that VW still makes and sells the Vanagon (in South Africa) and they appear to have fixed Wasserboxer problems by no longer installing Wasserboxers. This conversion stuff fits with that nicely. Clearly YMMV as regards these engines, but this aircooled owner loves to keep pointing out that the Wasserboxer is the only engine to have ever blown up during a Road&Track magazine long-term test (sometime prior to 36K miles) and just "listening" to the traffic on this list suggests the mileage is usually on the problematic side. Someday I'll get organized to get a newer Vanagon and it will have an inline engine if I do. |
