One thing I have noticed under the Vanagon, and this will certainly affect the heater performance, the water lines for the heater are totally exposed to the elements, under the van/truck, that the cold air will cool the water inside the hoses. I have thought of insulating the hoses on my Syncro, so less heat will radiate off the hoses, and more will radiate off in the heater core.
