Hole may not be necessary.

My battery heater (blanket type) - just put the extension in through the sliding door and plugged it in. Slammed the door - no harm to the gasket and practical jokers couldn't unplug it.

For the block heater, if you're using the VW original type under the engine case heating the oil - the cord comes out by the rear bumper and can be lashed to the towing ring on the driver's side. Oil heating type is a good method IMHO: at least it works well in Ottawa cold 20below Fahrenheit. Always started for me, and it means oil stays fluid and you're getting lubrication quicker than with water heating types.

I'm wondering why you'd want to run the plugs to the front of the van anyway? I think you could find a way to route the battery warmer cord to the rear; passing the wire through where the heater hoses come through the body to the rear heater - might have to cut off the plug and reinstall a new plug.
