Dear List members,
Hi, my name is Katy and I've been lurking (more like learning) from all
of you for a while. I like to get the "real" picture from people that
"Know" from their own experience.  I've found that many times, the
enthusiast knows more, than the local garage.   I'm also the wife of a
20 veteran mechanic and have helped rebuild many an engine. (and an
untold amount of repacking needle bearings because I have small
hands-VBG)  I'm no mechanic, but have done my share of fixing things on
the road throughout the years.  I owned a 1987 Vanagon GL for 3 years
quite a while ago and am looking to purchase a Westy before this summer.

        I'll be traveling alone throughout the state of Iowa for my job,  and I
can't afford to be breaking down.  I will be able to save small farmers
a lot of money if I can provide my own "motel" and meals.  Hence, my
reasons for purchasing a Westy.
I've found  a couple that sound good but am now very wary of engines
that have "minor"  leaks involving the coolant and/or oil seals after
reading many of your posts.
If it is appropriate or the list is interested I would like to post one
or two responses I've had and get your opinions.
By the way, I have found NO vanagon campers at all,  in the state of
Iowa and will have to travel to go and buy one, in addition to not being rich.
