Subject: Ceiling Vent
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

I drove the Alaska Highway in my Vanagon GL and slept in the back with the seat folded down into a bead. It was great until I got back into the states. Then it got hot. Part of the problem was the heat from the engine. It took so long to cool off in the evenings that it was uncomforatable to sleep until the wee hours. It also wasn't well ventilated in the rear of the GL. Not bad in colder climes, but a problem in warmer climes.

Question, has anyone ever put a vent into the top of their van. I had a small motor home many years ago, and having a single vent in the ceiling about a foot square made all the difference in the world. It was hinged forward, so when you cranked up the cover, it opened at the rear, Swinging up and forward. The vent had a bug screen in it and it definitely was water proof. With the vent open you definitely had a draft through the vehicle if a forward window wa open. It also helped ventilate a great deal if it was open and inch or so when driving. You got complete flow through.

The idea is a good one, but I just wondered if anyone has done such on their van, and what if any problems did you encounter. What vent was used, etc. Wouldn't want a sloppy job.

Anyone?
