Were I seeking a really reliable Westy, I would find one with a runout engine...whether high mileage or leaking heads or whatever. Then get it rebuilt to my own satifaction. In my case, I would go for a blueprinted and balanced engine with all the extras Robert Lilley(of this list) did to his. Drop him and e-mail and request information on his engine. With you background on cars and engines, I think you will appreciate his approach. Follow his example and you should have a very reliable, long lasting engine that should give you a minimum of trouble.
