Perhaps the Deutsche Methode is not possible with out Deutsche Labor, or at least a transplanted Deutsche Attitude. The New Beetle is produced in Mexico, and many of the parts are produced there and other low wage countries as well. Is is possible quality suffers when wages are low?

It is not surprising then that the New Beetle's quality ranks somewhere around that of the Ford Taurus, which is also assembled in Mexico.

The Eurovan may be made using the DM and DL, but because of that it will never be price competitive, that's why we own and love our Vanagons and spend so much time and effort preserving them! -- Stuart MacMillan Manager, Case Program 800-909-8244 ext 208
