While I'm sure you'll get more detailed replies than mine, your problem sounds identical to one I had last summer. The problem turned out to be in the fuel regulator ---- you might want to put a fuel pressure guage at the regulator to make sure it's up to spec. It may be pushing gas but at the wrong pressure. The guy who diagnosed this for me put on a used fuel regulator and it was fine.

1984 1.9 recently overhauled engine The van starts great cold runs great but if you shut it down or stall it won't start. If you let it cool down it starts fine. When trying to start hot it cranks forever. once in a while it would start after extensive cranking with the pedal held to the floor. I've replaced the plugs, cleaned the grounds on the engine, checked the timing. I pulled the fuel line off one set of injectors and cranked to see if there was any gas and it wanted to start. And it pumped out plenty of gas. after reconnecting the line it won't start. If I crawl under the van and disconnect the pump and have someone crank it starts and then I reconnect the pump and it's fine suggestions?
