Subject: Wading depth & a question

My 1986 US Syncro owner's manual insert sets forth the wading depth as 11.3 in/290mm.

Question: The same Syncro manual also refers to an "intake air preheater valve located on the right behind the maintenance flap" and the need to close that valve when wading. The picture shows it to be behind the rear license plate and directly below the oil fill tube. However, my Syncro does not have this valve. What gives? TIA, Greg & Val 86.5 Camper Syncro WLE
