I agree with you on pretty much all of your points. The thing with all of the conversions and Robert's mods are that they all have low miles on them. It is pretty much wait and see.

The only exception would probably be the in-line 4 cylinder conversion as these have been done for a long time now. However, again, you have the brewing idea where some conversions were home-made and rather "Strange Brew" and others are very well done and have held up well. So you still have the consistancy factor in there.

So, if you have a conversion or mod that has stood the test of time and miles, then speak up. If you are still in the "Beta" stage and keep posting about how great your conversion/mod is then you might wind up with egg on your face. Been there, done that :)
