The old mount is showing signs of cracking, so I don't think I'll be saving it. A mechanic at the auto craft shop here at WSMR had me move it back and forth on the lift while he looked at it. He thinks its in the clutch. The puzzling thing is - why does it only shudder in reverse. I would expect that if it were the clutch, I'd have a shudder in both directions, right? As for the rear mounts - the engine moves in a front to back fashion when it shudders, not side to side or rotation, so it seems like the rear mounts would have minimal impact on the problem.
