Dave; If I am reading your post correctly, I can think of one possible problem. Now, the fuel lines move WITH the engine i.e. very little flexing. If you mount them on the body and run them to the engine they will flex as the engine vibrates. I would be afraid of fatigue stress unless you used braided steel reinforced lines.
