Well just got my New rebuilt heads from Mark Stephens and after reading the accompanying literature they send out I've got rebuild jitters. Most of the lit. basically states that if your heads got screwed up before then the new ones might too! Therefore something else besides the heads might be wrong with your engine. And they will not guarantee their new heads if they get trashed. When I disassemble I plan on examining the pistons, heads, cylinders, pushrods, rods, lifters, rockers carefully. I am also entertaining the idea of taking in the block (with cam) to a machine shop to have them check it over. I thought that it would be relatively simple to put on the new heads, put in rods, lifters and rockers (inspect/replace old). Adjust the lifters. But most of the lit. points to bad fuel mixtures. Will I need to adjust fuel mixture and other (air) too ? I thought the ECU and FI did all this? Doesn't Bentley explain all of this thoroughly? Low down: What should I do before I reassemble my engine besides check/replace all parts like injectors, plugs, ignition, tappets/lifters ? Can I ruin my new heads if I reassemble after this? (yes I know there could always be something but am more interested in obvious things the novice might miss) Sean |
