Hi, I know this is not a 'Vanagon' question but I'm gonna give it a shot. My friends 74 bus with a two bbl carb has a strange starting problem. When cold starting is not usually a problem but after the van warms up SOMETIMES it appears to have a fuel delivery problem. Symptoms: Van warm Automatic Choke flaps open Turn the starter, Van starts and runs for 20 seconds or so. Van dies and does not start when turned over pour gas into the carb (prime it), van starts fine. This problem happens frequently enough to make driving in the city a night mare! BUT it does not happen all the time and it seems the hotter the temperature outside the more frequent the problem. ANyways I have now been kindly asked to fix it. I am thinking: a) intermittent fuel pump...hmmmm its mechanical so I doubt it. b) fuel filter......but it runs fine when started, up and down hills c) some vapor lock problem.....??????? d) some carb issue.........advice???? Short of taking the entire fuel system off (its from the east canada so the chasis is RUSTY) and putting it all back on again I really don't know where to start. I have inspected the filters and purged the hoses..... ANy suggestions?? my friend thanks you in advance ANdyS Vancouver BC |
