(ask him) anyway, i helped him do it. the whole thing is pretty simple. the hardest part is having the guts to cut the initial hole in your roof, after that, everything goes like cake. never even used the Westy roof sheetmetal. fyi, i have a complete westy poptop for sale, if anyone wants to do this. if you have any questions and would like to know the REAL answer, rather than speculated heresay from people who have never done the conversion themselves, feel free to call me, or im sure Karl would let you know anything you want, also.

Hi Chris,

I received the post from Karl. He says:

>>"The real fun of separating the metal halves (inner and outer) of the metal roof by drilling out the spotwelds is yet to begin. After that's done, I think it will become self-evident what will have to be welded and how big of a hole needs to be cut in our roof."<<

This does not sound like "HEARSAY" from someone who hasn't done the work to me. I am relying on Karl's post and website for information regarding the conversion. I see that you cut the roof and installed angled pieces of metal. However, I don't see how you guys installed the flat deck for the bed. I can appreciate accepting information from people who have done the conversion. I see your point. However, if you read my e-mail carefully you will notice that I said "I DON"T KNOW IF , etc., etc. read below: Also note that I have the an entire roof in front of me.

from Ben >> I'm in middle of removing a poptop from an 82 for a friend. I have also read Karl & Kristina's poptop project. Swapping the top seems more involved than it looks. I don't know how the post-82 poptop looks like but this one on the 82 is sitting on a frame work w/o any sheet metal at all. The entire roof is open under the poptop. The rear section has a piece of plywood bolted to the frame work of the roof to provide a platform for the bed.<<

Please enlighten me if I've missed something. I don't mean to offend or want to be offended. I have pmailed Karl. I'd be interested to know what roof sheetmetal is he is talking about in the above paragraph. I'm waiting for his reply.
