The one I ordered thru Bus Depot for $5.00 was wired differently that the one on my 87 so you might be careful about getting one from them. Nelson Hogg

OH YES. Mine melted in the 3rd position (high) and then eventualkly didn't turn on at all. I took it apart and it looks OK, but I still couldn't get it to work. I pulled the one out of my '86 parts van and it is held together with duct tape. It works though for a few days until i can go order one. Anyone know how much they are and a place to get them other than my unfriendly neighborhood VW dealer?
