Mike, Flushing the old dirty moisture laden fluid is good preventative maintenance that keeps the brake system in top condition. Corrosion of the system components is delayed therefore you make fewer calls to list venders ;+). Also, I too am experiencing the initial soft brake pedal you mention, I've been told that the problem is often that the rear brake shoes are out of adjustment I will be following the List feedback on this issue too.
