Yesterday I looked at my odometer and realized I missed an important event in the history of my Vanagon. It now passed the 250,000 mile mark, original engine, original tranny (but with a soft rebuild inside). Let's hear from anyone else out there, 250,000 miles plus, with original "hardware!!" The only major work I ever had done on mine was a tranny soft rebuild in 1998 and new head gaskets in 1996. Nothing else big. When I bought my van new, I was looking at the Ford Aerostar and the Dodge "Care Bear" vans. It is clear I made the right choice, those others would be rust fodder in some bone-yard today. It is true, "Few things work as well as a Volkswagen!!!!
