Subject: Help! How to disassemble a halfshaft (Syncro Front)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Help! I am sure that I am in over my head now, but I will be a better person for the experience <insert ascii art crossed fingers here>

I have a half shaft out of my Syncro with new boots waiting to be installed and I am stuck on removing the CV joints from either end. Bently shows using a press on the inners, but seems to indicate that you just remove the spring fastener from the outer and slip off the joint while tapping lightly with a copper(?) mallet.

Hmm. I don't have a copper mallet and even if I did, I am not sure where or how to tap.

Is there any way I am going to do this at home using basic tools and no press or do I need to take it to a shop?

Thanks,

John-Reed Maffeo '86 Syncro - Glacie Mesa, AZ (at least it is warm here)
