Subject: My Coolant Runneth Over
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

On an 83½ water-cooled Westy the coolant level repeatly rises and ultimnately overflows. The system has been carefully bled per instrucitons in the archives, but the problem recurrs.

I suspect that combustion gases are getting past the piston gasket and into the coolant.

Is this a problem others have experienced?

Is there a test that might confirm this?

Is retorquing the heads likely to help or am I looking at replacing the gaskets?

TIA

Geo Hahn 84 Westy
