Seems I was jinxed by this thread. I noticed that my fan wasn't blowing after driving a while and went to adjust it and found it stuck in the 3 position. Shortly after that I got stuck in the snow (I'll have some pictures to show what an 87 synchro camper CAN'T get out of :-). By the time the tow truck came my windows were nice and foggy, so I did some surgery with my swiss army knife, and got it working enough to clear the windshield.
