Robin, fellows and fellaws: I had similar problems with my radio. I recently installed two front-door speakers (acquired from a fellow list member) in the panel headliner of my '84 Westfalia. Centered them six inches from the front border of the panel and aligned with the first screw to either side of the center, they fit just in the cutoff of the sunvisor. Wired them tapping into the speakers cables running on the passenger side over-the-door pillar to the rear cabinet. I just crossed the channels, left speaker on the panel is connected to the right channel and right speaker to the left channel. It has improve a lot my sense of hearing even under highway running (NOS 75MPH) which is not so long in Puerto Rico, maybe something over 15 minutes maximum before encountering a hill or a detour.
