Subject:      Crazy snow in East (some vanagon content)

Like a lot of folks, I spent some of yesterday clearing the heaps of snow
from around our place. 22 inches on the front porch, 24 in back. And since
we are in the process of moving, my snow shovel is 70 miles away. Found a
new use for a wok.

So I finally made my way to the Vanagon, (1982 modified 2.1L Air Westy),
and it cranks right up, but the alternator/heaterblower isn't spinning. A
couple revs later, it catches, and I figure the belt got a little moist. I
hop out as it idles...but it sounds different. I can normally here the
growl of the cooling fan...nothing.

Open the license-plate door: solid snow inside. I hop back in and shut it
off. Open the access hatch and the motor box is FULL of snow. Evidently the
left cooling duct was perfectly positioned to allow the 30 mph winds to
carry a couple bushels of snow into the cold motor box.

Needless to say, I cleared the fan, started it up, and let it run for a 1/2
hour to melt and dry the motor. Of course, it was all for not. Our parking
lot won't be cleared for a few days, so our little van will sit right
there.
