Maybe he is thinking about the 2,5 boxer in the 98-up Legacy and Impreza RS? The XT had either a 1,8T 4-banger or a 2,7 6-banger.

Oh, btw the 2,5 in the Legacy and Impreza is a 4-banger too. 165 hp should be adequate.
