I just returned from a weekend-trek and had a very strange miss occur about 4 hours into my drive. I was wondering if anyone had a solution - since I seem to recall this problem being discussed before. This is on an '88 Westy with 128K. About 4 hours into freeway driving at aprox 4K rpm. While driving up an incline, the motor would act as if all electrical power were cut for an instant. It would do this once, then about 3 minutes later start again. This gradually got worse, to the point that it was happening every 5-10 seconds. I seemed to recall reading a post about a confused ECU cutting power, and that turning the ignition off reset the ECU, so while going on a downgrade, I turned the engine off, waited about 10 seconds and started the engine again. Surprisingly the miss disappeared and did not show up at all for the remaining hour of the trip. Is this a known problem? Or do I have some odd electrical gremelen? I think it is time to get a digitool! Thanks, Todd '88 Westy |
