After hearing from other listmembers that their temp guages read about 1/4 to 1/3 I was a little concerned that mine reads 2/3 (or 3/4 when pulling a big hill in fourth). My mechanic (over 20 years on VW's) who did the transplant said that the temp is fine. I'm wondering if there is possible a guage diff. between the '86 Jetta donor and my '82 Vanagon. Has been running likea top. Engine was put in November 1 and since then have been to Outer Banks from Wilmington, and to Asheville from Wilmington 2 times. After being on the road, I went back and checked the engine compartment temp and valve cover etc. As much as I could visully and the engine comparment was quite cool.
Of course after typing all this, I realized he could have changed the pulley...I will ask him this week if he used the Jetta pulley. Stefan |
